40 degrees Gale Force Winds - sounds like the right time to get out on the bay
On Friday Eve and I stepped aboard Wind Charmer the number one vessel in the Melbourne Sailing School fleet as we took our Competent Crew Level II course, we were with Phil (a publisher from Melbourne) who was taking his skipper course and Master Stuart who was there to teach.
The course across the bay in 25-35 knots of wind (and 40 degrees of heat) we made for Port Arlington, then took a rest (visiting the Grand Hotel) then dinner on the boat and a night sail into the wind (it had turned by then from North to South Westerly) and tacked our way into the darkness, down a narrow and unlit channel all the way to Queenscliff.
We arrived a little after midnight at Queenscliff and slept on the boat, up early we went out towards the Rip in fairly slack water then sailed our way back to Point Lonsdale for lunch and back to Sandringham around 6pm - exhausted not at all - we had a dinner party to go to ;-)

Its the Labour Day long weekend in Melbourne so that means MOOMBA
Moomba is a festival that celebrates the Yarra River (and now the Docklands area) its all about a big waterskiing competition, the Birdman Ralley, a lot of rides and side shows and yes of course kids vomiting.
we popped along with Harri in 35c heat - fun but hot hot hot.

Sid Patterson Grand Prix, the 2008 Australian Madison and good food
Its funny how Melbourne just gets on and does the most amazing things, its the food festival so we caught the tram (5 minutes) into town and got off at Fed Square for the Great Aussie BBQ, we enjoyed Beef from Neil Perry and the Rockpool team, Goat from Movida, another dish from Circa - it was all great.
We watched cooking demonstrations on the stage (love the fake lawn)
I loved the white shed, bbq, lawn ornaments etc..
We wandered from Fed Square over to Birrarung Mar where we watched them putting up the Ferris Wheel and listened to the Federation Bells
Then we went along to the voda arena to watch the Australian National Madison Championship (a bike race) which was fantastic fun
then we walked home (as you do when you live in Sth Melbourne).
Sunday we enjoyed more of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival cycling in to Fed Square again for the Thai experience enjoying more food and festivities with thousands of people (no pix this time).
